John Hauger: “The McKinley Assassination on Record”
This presentation will focus on a volatile period of American history as recorded in Motion Pictures by the Thomas Edison Film Crews. This lecture includes President McKinley’s actual horse-drawn hearse as a visual backdrop.

Bill Klinger: “In the Trenches: Surveying the Groove”
This presentation explores the 3-D nature of the recording groove—as if we were “in the trenches."
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Peter N. Dilg, Keynote Address: “Acoustic Cylinder Recording Experiences” followed by a live acoustic recording event
Mr. Dilg has been collecting antique cylinder phonographs and recording gear for over 50 years and is owner of the Wizard Cylinder Record label. A world-renowned expert acoustic recording engineer, he has recorded performances by Peter, Paul and Mary, Les Paul, Wynton Marsalis, Green’s New Novelty Orchestra, They Might Be Giants, and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, to name only a few.
Following the keynote address, Peter will record the world-premiere performance of “The Phonovention Rag,” a newly commissioned piece performed by the Phonovention Brass Quintet.
Time: 3:30 p.m., with recording session to follow at 4:30 p.m.
Dr. Phil Stewart: “The Quest: Record Collectors on a Mission”
This after-dinner presentation recounts the stories of MAPS members and other record collectors on a quest for that one record. Hear their stories and records, ranging from opportunities lost to Wally Buterworth’s search over two continents looking for Caruso’s
“Vecchia Zimarra” - plus Phil’s own five-year search for Frank Crumit’s “Buckeye Battle Cry.”
Time: 8:00 p.m., immediately following banquet.
